Sociobiology is a highly controversial synthesis of genetics, psychology, sociology, ecology, and evolutionary theory. It attempts to understand the evolution of behavior and social organization for animals ranging from jellyfish to man. Topics discussed include group and kin selection, the problem of altruism, territoriality, aggression, dominance, sex roles, parental investment, and a review of the criticisms directed against sociobiology.
