COLL 1410 - GLOBALIZATION & GLOBAL ISSUES

Minimum Credits: 3
Maximum Credits: 3
We are living in an era of unprecedented economic, technological, and cultural interconnection. It is an era of global media and global audiences, planet-enveloping telecommunication networks, transnational virtual communities, worldwide 24-hour financial flows, and multinational networked organizations. The internet has revolutionized the global communications and has facilitated unparalleled interaction and interdependency of human groups and processes across the boundaries that geographically and historically separated them. The objectives of this colloquium are to examine globalization in its economic, political, technological, environmental and cultural dimensions. We will survey the dominant theories of globalization and regionalization and examine the current trends in regionalization and globalization of culture, communication, telecommunication, and information technology industries and global environmental regulatory structures and human rights related issues.
