PET 0107 - GEOLOGY OF MARCELLUS SHALEMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Unconventional natural gas deposits are beginning to make up an increasingly larger percent of the natural gas resources found in shale plays. Several TCF of natural gas can be extracted from shale plays using modern horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing. Unconventional natural gas wells drilled into the shale plays such as the Marcellus Shale occur in 32 counties in Pennsylvania within the Appalachian basin, Barnett Shale of Texas, Fayetteville Shale of North Central Arkansas, Haynesville shale of North Western Louisiana, and Woodford shale of Oklahoma. These unconventional gas reservoirs show a promising new horizon in energy resources in the United States.
