ANTH 1405 - THE DARWINIAN REVOLUTIONMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 The impact of Darwin's idea of evolution by natural selection will be explored primarily by reading many original sources and subsequent commentaries. Topics considered will be Darwin biographies and his publications especially the "origin of the species", the Victorian world view, and overview of pre-Darwinian science, the importance of the voyage of the "beagle", the discoveries of Wallace, the social Darwinism of Herbert Spencer and eugenicists such as Haeckel, the unilineal cultural schema of Morgan, the rise of genetics and ethology, the neo-Darwinians, etc. Academic Career: Undergraduate Course Component: Lecture Grade Component: LG/SNC Elective Basis Course Requirements: Prerequisites: Upper-Level Courses require completion of ENG 0101, ENG 0102, FS 0102, and the MATH competency
