This course is an introduction to the great body of literature that is contemporary French narrative. We will be reading a representative sample of some of the most important authors of this century, looking at their themes, narrative techniques and the interaction between the two. The two main genres are the short story and the novel. During the semester we will also be viewing films based on well-known French novels or short stories. The class will be encouraged to discuss the films in light of what they learned in the course.
