Throughout the world, indigenous peoples have been creating arts and crafts both for themselves and for outsiders for a long time. This course examines the impact of this artistic production and exchange both historically and today, when billions of dollars of arts and crafts are purchased every year from all over the globe. How has this changed the objects being purchased? How have the materials in them changed? How have their makers changed? What do their makers thinks about who purchase what they make, and the value (both monetarily and culturally) of their evolving cultures.
