ENG 1406 - AMERICAN JOURNEYSMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 An analysis of real and imaginary American journeys, the course will begin with the journals of Lewis and Clark, which chronicle the exploration of the west ordered by president Thomas Jefferson. Readings will cover such voyages as Joshua Slocum's great adventure sailing alone around the world, William least heat moon's blue highways, and Harlan Hubbard's shanty boat. "searches for self" include Ralph Ellison's invisible man and Paule Marshall's praise song for the widow.
