HIST 1327 - RACE AND THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT, 1877-1929Minimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 This course examines community formation, activism, and race relations in the context of black urbanization in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Among other topics, we will explore gender and class dynamics in African American communities and consider the development of important organizations such as the National Association of Colored Women, Urban League, NAACP, Universal Negro Improvement Association, and black weekly newspapers.
