HIST 0223 - LATIN AMERICAN HISTORYMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Drawing on over 200 years of pluralist history, this course surveys the peoples, places, and politics of the modern region that has been known as Latin America since the nineteenth century. We will approach Latin America through multiple layers of human experience, moving between local communities, through nation-states, and beyond. We will interrogate the (ongoing) historical forces of colonialism, capitalism, and imperialism; we will deconstruct the power dynamics of racial, gender, and sexual oppression; and we will learn how to use the processes of the past to rethink the issues of the present.
