EDUC 1316 - INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS: HIGH INCIDENCE DISABILITIES

This course is designed to prepare teachers for the teaching and learning process as it relates to students with specific learning disabilities and other cognitive related problems. Specifically, emphasis will be placed on reviewing existing research to determine the evidence based instructional practices for students with learning disabilities. In addition, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) mandates, inclusive education, collaboration with parents, culturally responsive instruction, and appropriate accommodations and modifications with focus on literacy and mathematics instruction will be explored. Upon completion of this course, students will have a firm understanding from which to grow as a special education teacher. An understanding of special education terminology and various areas of exceptionality with respect to students with learning disabilities will provide students with an increased confidence as they move forward in their coursework and field experiences.
